Born Again

Salvation & Regeneration

The spiritual rebirth and transformation that occurs when a person receives new life in Christ

Definition

Being 'born again' refers to the radical spiritual transformation that occurs when a person places faith in Jesus Christ. It is not a physical rebirth but a spiritual regeneration - the Holy Spirit imparts new spiritual life, creating a new nature within the believer. This concept emphasizes that entering God's kingdom requires more than religious activity or moral reformation; it demands a supernatural rebirth initiated by God's Spirit.

Significance

The born again experience is foundational to Christian salvation. Jesus Himself declared it as essential for entering the Kingdom of God (John 3:3). This doctrine emphasizes that salvation is not about external religion or human effort, but about internal transformation by the Holy Spirit. Being born again results in a new identity as a child of God, a new nature that desires righteousness, and eternal life. It represents the beginning of the Christian life - the moment when a spiritually dead person is made alive in Christ. Throughout church history, this concept has been central to evangelical Christianity and personal conversion experiences.
